Bryn is definitely not for a novice and needs an experienced confident rider as he can get anxious with new situations and environments. Took him a good few months to settle with me and still has the odd spook or funny five minutes.
Once settled he’s a solid, leg in each corner ride and can do pole work, a bit of very basic dressage and is very responsive. He’s a solid boy and good weight carrier.
He’s not a good loader and I’ve not attempted to address that while I’ve had him as it was never my intention to go off to events. Apparently he has loaded fine in the past with another horse so perhaps it was him being loaded alone and taken from his old home that unsettled him.
We had to get him sedated to leave his last home.
He’s bucked with me once when I took him up to the school when I first got him, all alone and a windy day. As I went to mount something spooked him and he set off when I only had 1 foot in a stirrup and bucked sending me flying.
Never done it since so I blame myself for freaking him out!
I’ve not ridden him on roads but last owner did and we are still in touch.
I’ve hacked him alone and with others around our off-road areas and he’s fine in front of behind. I’ve even let my 6yr old hack him on lead rein round the woods and he was good as gold and stood for ages while I faffed with the stirrups!
He does have a beautiful jump on him I’m just too heavy to be doing much on that on him.
Had him since December last year but due to a change in personal circumstances I can’t afford to keep him.
He has what we assume is sweet itch on the bottom of his mane and part of his tail.
Had the vet do skin scraping and blood test to rule out anything else.
Since I got a few creams from Biteback products and that with his full fly rug is loads better. He had no history of it before I got him and could be something where we are specifically.
We have had a LOT of horse flies here this year. I’ve had multiple bites myself.
It certainly seems contained to mane & tail and now clearing up.
He would come with all the fly rugs and lotions we’ve found that work.
